250G HDD Transfrer Stuff
So I was talking with some of the guys about transfering items from old HDD to 250G HDD. It is possible to do without M$s cable crap. All you need is a PC and a transfer cable, used or not. The cable can be found on eBay for about $10. It comes with the software for 20,60,120G HDD, but not the 250G. Here are the instructions & links for software for 250G HDD.

Also, data is out on how to make your own HDD. Looking into that one.

Actually not that bad, though it should be easier. All you need is a desktop & some computer knowledge. Its just sad that I have to result to this so I can keep my software on my Xbox without having to delete stuff all the time. I understand prices for software as development & staff cost alot, but slapping a $5 case on a $30 HDD and selling it for six times the cost is a little shameful, even for M$

Well, after dropping out of games because my POS XBox has a dying DVD drive, I decided to get a bigger HDD so I can play only off the Hdd. I wanted a 250GB, but not buying another xbox for that. I have started making my own with a 250GB passport drive. So far, going ok. Only issue is that my laptop will not boot from a USB, which is a big deal. I am working around that now. When I'm done, I'll set it up & post the walk through and pics on the website.

Because you need to load a dos prompt & have a HDD you plan to use loaded into the computer. You could use a CD boot disc or a floppy boot disk, but either way, you have to load MS Dos. I am discovering that some laptops don't like the drive & I might have to use the desktop, but the process is the same. Its not hard, & I've already got my original hdd backed up (including the Forza 3 files which are almost impossible to get) and I am trying to refine the process to make it so anyone can do this. Fuck M$!

Ok, so its gone down hill. The good news is that I got all my data off my 20Gb HDD and it is all backed up on my P C. I improved on this process by buying a WD Passport 250Gb external HDD. I took it apart for the drive and used the USB cable with my Xbox HDD to get the data off (pretty much like a data cable, but without all the headache). It was worth it since the WD drive cost 55 dollars and the external drive cost 65. The bad news is that I cannot set my 250Gb up with my notebook. Some SATA controllers, the chips that control your drives in your PC, don't work well with the mod, and laptops are notorious for not working at all. It comes down to BIOS settings, which most laptops don't have many options for SATA/IDE controllers. Desktop PCs do however. Either way, soon as I get into a desktop, I'll be good to go. I have taken notes and pictures of all this, so when I update with walkthrough, anyone will be able to do this, even Mental.
